The Society relies on the support of its volunteers. More members are needed to ensure that its work continues to grow and flourish.
You can make a difference
Many people in and around Durbanville live in poverty, deprived of basic human needs such as food, sanitation, health or shelter. Poverty isn’t the only sort of deprivation; chronic loneliness and isolation is a significant and growing problem. But people need not face these issues alone if people like you are prepared to give a little time to help them.
By becoming an SVP member, you can make a real difference to the lives of those near you who are suffering. All you need to join the Society is a strong desire to follow Christ through service to those in need and so bear witness to His compassionate and liberating love. The Society only asks that you accept our Christian ethos and commit to expressing your love of God through personal service to your neighbour. We help all people irrespective of their background or religion. The only criterion for who we help is a person’s need.
What sort of people are we looking for?
We need volunteers who are, above all, caring and compassionate. In addition, we want people who are good listeners, able to keep confidences, and who are respectful and non-judgemental of others.
Members are never expected to do anything they are uncomfortable with. Every member works as part of a team so they do not have to cope on their own or deal with anything they cannot manage.

Leaving money to charity in your Will is a time-honoured tradition of ‘giving something back’ in celebration of your own life, your faith, and the privileges you have enjoyed. After you’ve made provision for your family and friends in your Will, you have the opportunity to help the larger family of which we are all part – the whole of mankind.
By including a bequest to the St Vincent de Paul Society, you have the satisfaction of knowing that your compassion and concern for those less fortunate will live on beyond your own lifetime. And you could save money. Because gifts to our Society are tax deductible, and may reduce the tax payable on your death.
